The East Rochester Union Free School District, located in Monroe County, just southeast of the City of Rochester in New York State, is seeking an outstanding educational leader to assume the role of Superintendent of Schools.
The District serves a residential, easily accessible village of about 7,000, plus approximately 1,200 residents in parts of the towns of Pittsford and Perinton. About 250 faculty, support staff and administrators make up the team of dedicated employees who support East Rochester’s 1,047 students. But perhaps more notably, East Rochester is the only district in Monroe County to house 14 grades, Universal Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12, in one comprehensive, state-of-the-art building. The Elementary School is comprised of grades Pre-Kindergarten through five, the Middle Level Academy houses grades 6-8 and the High School educates students in grades 9-12.
Building on its core values of Students First - Opportunity - Achievement - Responsibility - Strength (SOARS), East Rochester proudly offers excellent academics, diverse extra-curricular offerings and a supportive, enriching environment that allows all students to challenge excellence. The District offers outstanding performing arts, in-house culinary arts and competitive interscholastic athletic programs as but a few examples of the comprehensive nature of the learning atmosphere.
Community pride and involvement in its schools are hallmarks of the District. Because of East Rochester’s size, parents truly get to know each other and the faculty and staff who work with their children. Students benefit greatly from the support of the community that believes in educating every child. The community circles around the motto, “We are…ER.”
Recently, as part of the Board’s community outreach through stakeholder group meetings and an online survey, parents, students, staff, and members of the community cited strengths of the District that included, but were not limited to:
A dedicated faculty and staff that act like a family with a focus on students.
Modern, up to date facilities.
A well-connected community where everyone is overwhelmingly supportive of its schools.
A stable student population housed in a single building.
An excellent location in Monroe County, close to the Finger Lakes and the City of Rochester.
As part of its community outreach the Board collected input regarding the educational challenges ahead for the District and the professional experiences and personal characteristics the next Superintendent should possess. After a careful review of that information, the Board has determined that the ideal candidate will be:
A respected and successful educator with classroom teaching and building and/or central office administrative experiences, who has demonstrated the ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with all constituencies, making decisions grounded in the best interest of students and the school community.
A school administrator with an understanding of the finance and human resource functions who can advise, oversee and/or conduct related activities providing ongoing leadership by charting a reasonable and thoughtful approach to challenges in both areas facing the District.
A creative thinker and visionary who will work with the Board of Education and the school community to facilitate a strategic planning process for determining priorities and focus for the work of the staff.
A proven instructional leader who will embrace cultural as well socio-economic diversity and one who will work closely with staff to provide multiple learning opportunities for students and lead sensible improvements and innovations in curriculum and instruction building upon the academic successes of the District.
An energetic educator of the utmost integrity and character who will become an integral part of the school community, be regularly visible and will lead in an atmosphere of mutual respect and accountability.
The Superintendent will be provided with a regionally competitive salary and benefits package. Candidates must possess or be eligible for New York State certification as a School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL).
