The Board of Cooperative Educational Services of Otsego, Delaware, Schoharie, and Greene Counties announces a vacancy in the position of District Superintendent of Schools and Chief Executive Officer.
The District Superintendent is a public officer of the State of New York, serving both the State Education Department and the Board of Cooperative Educational Services. In the state role, the District Superintendent supports the implementation of State Education Law, the policies of the State Board of Regents, Commissioner’s regulations, and attends to special assignments at the request of the Commissioner. The District Superintendent also participates in the recruitment and selection of school superintendents as needed. In this state role, the District Superintendent reports to the Commissioner of Education. In the local role, the Chief Executive Officer of the Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES is accountable to a nine-member board of education. As Chief Executive Officer of the Otsego Northern Catskills BOCES, the District Superintendent is responsible for providing leadership to school districts within the supervisory district. In this capacity, the District Superintendent plans, administers, supervises, and evaluates the regional support services and educational programs provided by the BOCES at the request of its 19 component school districts.
The Otsego Northern Catskills (ONC) BOCES seeks a knowledgeable and experienced District Superintendent with a demonstrable history as a successful leader, effective communicator, and global thinker.

Serves as a resource to component schools, supports and mentors new superintendents
Represents the State Education Department in the field
Demonstrated success as a building principal, central office administrator or school superintendent with thorough understanding of issues facing rural districts
Exhibits respect and appreciation for staff by listening, being visible in classrooms, programs, and activities
Is approachable and interacts positively with all segments of the school community
Communicates proactively and shares information internally and externally in a timely manner
Articulates educational excellence, strong organizational behavior, and maintains positive relations with all stakeholders
Desires to be highly visible within the BOCES, schools, communities, and service groups
Keeps the board of education informed and well prepared to make sound decisions that support the district vision, mission, and goals
Builds rapport, maintains trust, models respect for diversity, nurtures relationships, and works professionally and collaboratively with board of education as a governance team
Guides, motivates, and inspires students, staff, program and district leaders to perform at the highest level
Assesses and evaluates all levels of the organization and makes appropriate instructional and fiscal recommendations and decisions
Supports continuous improvement through collaborative strategic planning, communicating a clear and concise vision to stakeholders
Has a vision of how technology can enhance and support instructional and management services
Brings stakeholders together and helps build consensus to accomplish common goals
