Accepting applications in School Spring until April 1, 2021. Summary The Elementary Curriculum Coordinator manages and coordinates the curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development in the Preschool, Alcott Elementary, Thoreau Elementary, and Willard Elementary. This includes all curriculum areas: English Language Arts; Mathematics; Social Studies, Science, Health; Social Emotional; Art; Music; Library; Physical Education; and Spanish. This position provides the system oversight, consistency, and vision for a majority of the activities related to teaching and learning processes, and facilitates implementation of the District’s mission and goals. Additionally, the incumbent collaborates with each of the other departments/divisions of the District, as appropriate, on matters related to teaching and learning, professional development, and program development; this includes elementary school educators; elementary administrators; school-based curriculum coordinators; special educators and special education administrators; all district-level employees; etc. Develops systematic approaches to improving student achievement based on testing and observation; also works with outside agencies to meet all students’ needs. Assists in implementing federal and state mandates such as No Child Left Behind, MCAS, Ed Reform, and others. Reports to and works closely with the Director of Teaching and Learning. (Note - this position replaces and assumes duties of the current Elementary Science Coordinator)

Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience: Masters degree in education preferred; Minimum of three years experience teaching elementary school with excellent performance reviews; Successful formal or informal leadership experience at school and/or district level as a mentor teacher; teacher trainer; committee member; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, ability, and skills.
Special Requirements: Massachusetts Driver’s License Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Licensure as an elementary school teacher Knowledge: Knowledge of the curricula currently used is preferred, including Lucy Caulkins; Fundations; Everyday Mathematics 4; FOSS; Literacy Collaborative; Great Body Shop. Knowledge of the organization and current operations of the school district. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations governing school districts in Massachusetts. Considerable knowledge of the current literature, trends, and developments in the field of computer operations and instructional technology. Knowledge and skill in seeking grants. Understanding of educational practices, research, and national/state/local initiatives, including Massachusetts Ed Reform, Time and Learning, Massachusetts Student Testing; and ability to frame issues for discussion, reach timely decisions, and implement change.
Ability to make administrative decisions in accordance with laws, ordinances, regulations, and school system policies and procedures. Ability to organize work-flow and coordinate activities. Ability to make oral presentations before large or small audiences including School Committee meetings. Ability to research data and to compile narratives or reports from information gathered. |
